Video gaming systems have never been seen as a way to use traditional advertising methods, especially when advertising for automakers. This has now changed as Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming console system is branching out to display interactive ads on TV this fall and one of the major advertisers to sign on is Toyota.

Xbox Live, the program used for internet streaming on the console, currently has more than 40 million subscribers.  The new program will consist of a new type of advertisement, appropriately dubbed "NUads," which will give consumers the unique opportunity to directly engage with the advertising spots they view. Xbox has disclosed that at its users spend more than half of their time streaming music and videos instead of simply playing games on the console, so this new program should reach a large audience.

The new NUads will allow users to vote in response to questions. Toyota will ask questions such as "What device(s) would you like to see 'reinvented'?" much in the same way the company "reinvented" its 2012 Toyota Camry. The move by Microsoft is part of a greater effort to take business from satellite and cable services and position it towards internet streaming for video and television viewing needs.
