Here at Shore Toyota, proudly serving drivers in the greater mays Landing area, we must say that sometimes, we get a little jealous of Jay Leno. Not only does he get to pal around with celebs on The Tonight Show, but he also has his own web series, Jay Leno's Garage. This allows the talk show host to take some of the latest and greatest autos out for a spin, along with some classics. In a recent episode, Leno heads to Japan and got to do something most would only dream of: drive in a replica the first Toyota vehicle ever made.
Since no original models are still around, Leno took a replica of a 1936 Toyota AA out for a spin. The vehicle was fitted to exact specifications and used parts that were from that era.
The Toyota AA started out like many modern Toyota vehicles; as a concept car. It was originally called the Toyota A1, and only three were made. One of these original concepts is in a unique place, too. That would be the gravesite of Kiichiro Toyoda's father. Toyoda, of course, is the man who went on to start Toyota, and he did so with the help of his father, who owned a successful looming business. The A1 was buried with the elder Toyoda as a tribute, thanking the man who has helped deliver high-quality vehicles like the Toyota Camry in the new Toyota lineup here at Shore Toyota.
The production Toyota AA was built until 1943 and in many cases has hand-crafted parts and accessories.
The replica that Leno drives is the closest to the real thing as it gets, and is one of the few times the vehicle has been seen on camera. The Toyota AA looks sharp appearance-wise, but Leno also notes that it drives pretty well too.
You're not going to find a 1936 Toyota AA here at 4236 Black Horse Pike Mays Landing, NJ 08330, but if you're looking for the Toyota Corolla or Highlander stop in to Shore Toyota.
