While the start-stop feature on select new Toyota vehicles is designed for convenience, the automaker also wants you to be safe, as always. That's why they've decided to modify the innovative feature for the betterment of its vehicles, and for all of us.

At Shore Toyota, you can find models with start-stop buttons that need to be pressed in for three seconds in order to turn off the vehicle. They are plenty safe, with active measures designed to keep you confident at the wheel, but Toyota felt it could improve the technology even more.

That's why new Toyota vehicles equipped with start-stop buttons will give you two options for a shutdown in case of an emergency. The first is similar to the one already in place. Instead of three seconds, it is now two seconds of holding the button in to turn the engine off. The other is quickly hitting the start-stop button three times.

How did the new changes come about?

Well, Toyota consulted SAE, the auto industry's most reliable engineering brain trust. After they recommended these two changes to the start-stop button feature, Toyota put a plan in action. The result? More safety for all of us in the greater Mays Landing area behind the wheel of a model like the Highlander or Camry.
