Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles (FCV) are a very real, promising alternative to gasoline combustion engines. But what's inside them?

Toyota is able to start with plain old cow manure, and turn it into a viable energy source. Hydrogen fuel has many advantages over oil, the largest of them being a complete lack of emissions.

Well, that's not true. FCVs have one exhaust emission, but we think you can live with it.

It's water.

Pure, plain water vapor. It's even clean enough to drink, though we don't necessarily recommend slurping from your tailpipe. Especially knowing that at one point, that hydrogen was part of cow poop.

Then again, all the water we drink was pee at some point, right? Ew. Ok, let's not get de-railed here.

The Toyota Mirai will go on sale in the United States starting this fall; though we expect early adopters will mainly be from California, since that's where the hydrogen fueling stations are being built. Still, one day, we could all be driving hydrogen powered cars.

Stop by Shore Toyota and take a test drive in one of our efficient and future-thinking new vehicles.
