"Protecting the environment is not just about CO2 and emissions," says Didier Leroy, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Corporation. "Biodiversity is equally important to human lives."
For that reason, Toyota announced yesterday that it will be partnering up with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for the next five years, funding and supporting the organization's assessment of over 28,000 species.
The IUCN will be using Toyota's $1.2 million grant to focus primarily on species that humans depend on for food and jobs. Yes, nature is the world's first and greatest job creator.
An estimated 200 million people worldwide rely on wild fisheries for their employment in either catching and harvesting fish (like sardines, sole, and plaice), or processing them. Billions more depend on species like wild rice and wheat for food security.
This partnership is part of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050 to reduce the environmental impact of vehicles.
Shore Toyota has a few ways to help you reduce your environmental impact, too, by providing fuel-efficient new vehicles to the Mays Landing area, as well as regular service and maintenance.
